The Voice Season 4, Week 1 Favorites

Hi there, friends! I’m so excited that The Voice is back becuase it gives me something to look forward to on Monday nights until The Bachelorette begins in a few months. Do you watch? I’m always super impressed with the talent and hearing some of the triumphant stories of overcoming obstacles to pursue dreams.  I usually end up downloading a bunch of songs on iTunes after the show, and this past Monday I was also pleasantly pleased with the performance the four coaches did to kick off the show, including the two newbies: Shakira and Usher. I do miss Cee-Lo (and his animals), though; he’s such a character!

Here are some of my favorite performances from the first week of blind auditions:

The one that gave me chills (for all the 90’s kids!):

The most surprising (this guy totally reminds me of Ashton Kutcher in this performance):

The no-brainer:

The most entertaining (their duo name is “Midas Whale” which they say came about when one asked the other if he wanted to start a duo and his reply was “might as well…” ha!):

Who are your favorites so far? What do you think of the new coaches?

This One’s for the Girls

Have you heard/read this commencement address by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg? I love it.  It’s been making waves in the news and online, and getting some extra press because of her new book, Lean In (more on that here).  I hope it inspires you on this Monday.

P.S. Here’s an article from today’s issue of USA Today about women being the “new” breadwinners.

Splurge vs. Steal: Tassel Keychains

I couldn’t stop thinking about this darling little tassel (found via) as a new accessory for my new cobalt blue handbag.  But, at $32 a pop for such a small accessory, I figured the bag was fine on its own.  That is, until I saw yesterday that Brickyard Buffalo (I almost wrote Blue Buffalo — that’s the dog food we feed our boy, Baxter. Ha!) has a nifty little sale on similar-looking accessories for only $3.49!  What!!  I bought six.  I couldn’t decide which color would complement cobalt best so I scooped up all the ones I liked most (moss, watermelon, mint, poppy, mustard and rust) and figured I could swap them out or give the rest away as gifts.

The Brickyard Buffalo deals usually sell out before the deals end so be sure to grab one (or six) while you can, otherwise, splurge a bit on the gorgeous Blair Ritchey tassel keychains, which come in small and large sizes — they’re a perfect little bit of flair for wallets, clutches, handbags, backpacks, keychains, duffels and more!

Happy Friday!

Happy Spring 2013

Happy First Day of Spring! As it usually is, our California weather didn’t quite get the memo and I’m all bundled up today but then, I’m always cold. Our very pleasant winter has brought us some gorgeous blooms and flowers. I’m certainly not a green thumb, but I’ve been inspired lately and have asked Mumbles to put some new plantings for our front yard area on his “honey do” list. Here are just a few snaps I’ve taken recently near home and at work…

Baxter — the last three months

Every day when I leave for work my heart breaks a little bit saying goodbye to our boy, Baxter. I can’t help it — he’s just too gosh darn cute! Here’s what our little guy has been up to the past few months…
