J.Crew Swim Sale

Happy Friday, friends! I’m finally wearing sweaters and layers to work now that it’s chilling up a bit (as much as it does in SoCal…) but I had to share that I’m super excited about scoring a bunch of J.Crew swimsuit pieces for about $5 each during their SHOPFALL sale right now. I also scooped up two rash guards for $10 each, which I’ve been wanting for those intensely sunny days on the lake. Now I’m all stocked up for next year!

Shop the sale here and have a great weekend!

The Limited + Scandal

Everyone knows Olivia Pope’s got style. If you think you can handle copious amounts of red wine around a lot of cream, white and beige clothes, you’ll surely want to scoop up pieces from the new Scandal-inspired collection of womenswear later this month at The Limited.  The collaboration partnered leading lady Kerry Washington with her brilliant costume designer Lyn Paolo so you know it’s gonna be fierce.  I think it’s going to be a smashing success and can’t wait to see it. There’s gotta be an over-sized white coat, right?

DIY Deodorant

Do you use deodorant? Of course you do. But is your deodorant just a deodorant or also an antiperspirant? I’ve always used an antiperspirant because, well, I’ve not wanted to be dripping with sweat all day. But a little light went off in my brain the other day when I read this beauty profile of Erica of The Mama Circle and she mentioned that anti-perspirant includes aluminum as the active ingredient, which is a super scary thing to be putting on your skin and seeping into your blood and the rest of your body (especially for nursing moms because your breast tissues extends in to your underarms). Say what?!  Add that to the long column of things we need to worry about.

So I tried one of the ones Erica recommended – Lavanila. Despite its lovely name and the promise of a soothing vanilla scent, it was awful. Just horrible. To me, it smelled like bug spray as soon as I opened the cap and by noon I could smell that fake perfume swirled with body odor amplified in a horrible way, even worse I’d say than it would have been if I simply hadn’t worn anything. Woof.  There are a few other natural deodorants out there that some people swear by. Like this one, this one, and this one. Clearly this is an issue that resonated with more than just me because not too long after that beauty profile, A Cup of Jo editor Caroline did a “Do I Smell Funny?” Natural Deodorant Challenge (kudos to her).  But she gave the Lavanila four out of five stars so maybe what works for one doesn’t work for others. I’m still not sure.  Perhaps I should just start stealing Mumbles’ every morning – after all, it seems to be working just fine for him and he can only use deodorant (not antiperspirant) due to some kidney issues. I’m not above putting some Old Spice under my arms every morning. I’ll smell like hunky man and it’ll be fabulous.

Before shelling out any more dough, I may just try Erica’s easy peasy DIY for deodorant, found here.  (Apparently it’s a common DIY, all-natural recipe because it was also posted on Babyccino Kids a while back…tried and true, fingers crossed?!).

Baby Moccasin Roundup

Have you noticed the obsession with baby moccasins lately? (again, I fear I’m a little late to the party…I’m saying that a lot lately…) Freshly Picked got a lot of media attention after appearing on Shark Tank and her moccs are absolutely gorgeous. We don’t have a pair (yet) but I do think they’d be fun for Declan once he’s actually trying to walk. Anyway, if you are trolling Instagram for gently used baby items, perhaps you’ve also seen that there are plenty of other brands selling moccs for the babes.

Here are favorites I’ve come across:

This red pair from Minnetonka has velcro ($21.95) which sounds genius but also a nightmare because I’d imagine Declan would think it was so hilarious to keep pulling them off!

I also adore this braid bootie from Minnetonka plus it’s an added bonus that they offer men’s and women’s styles too…so if it’s not too Brady Bunch of you, everyone in the fam can be sporting fabulous footwear together. Total bonus.

And this pair from Robeez ($25) just looks plain comfy.

If you’re looking for an affordable option, the camo pair from Max Moccs are pretty rad looking and only $33 shipped.

FAAS Design Distressed Butterscotch Lofaas (see what they did there? clever!) are perhaps my very favorite. I like that (similar to the Max Moccs version) there’s no fringe on them so they seem a little more modern and loafer like.  Buuut, they’re just as pricey as the Freshly Picked ones at sixty buckaroos. Ouch. Seriously, though, how sweet are the ballet-style or mary jane flats for little ladies?

I also see ones from Happy and The Hectic and Potato Feet on Instagram often, both of which range from $30-50.

Does your kiddo wear moccs? What’s your favorite brand?

P.S. This white pair of Minnetonka moccs is so gorgeous – I’d never be able to keep them clean but I must have them anyway!
