2012 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for my blog.  It was awfully nice of them.

Here’s a fun excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 7,400 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 12 years to get that many views.

I wrote 98 new posts last year, which more than doubled the content on my blog.  I am so excited to see where this takes me in 2013 and I can’t thank you enough for reading, commenting, sharing, and inspiring me.  The Bachelor is back next week so that will continue to be an entertaining writing exercise as I recap each episode (and a great excuse to get together with girlfriends every Monday night!).

Cheers to more!
P.S. If you have suggestions for what you’d like to see more of this year, please leave me a comment or send me an email (just click on the little orange envelope in the sidebar).  Thanks!

Here’s to more…

I was so proud of myself in November and December because I had all of my posts scheduled and drafted — I even had enough ready to go that I didn’t have to lift a finger while on vacation (bet you didn’t even realize I’d gone!).  But now, just when we’re all supposed to be kicking it into high gear, getting pumped up, resolving to do better in the New Year, I find myself slacking in the writing department.  While it’s nice to take a break every now and then, I made the choice to use this blog as an expressive outlet and writing tool for myself. As a way to fuel creativity, inspire, share and connect.  And I love it. So I need to keep writing.

And that’s where this comes in…

642 Things to Write About

I received this awesome book “642 Things to Write About” as a birthday gift and it’s full of fantastic prompts and blank spaces to write in your answers.  What a fun way to spark up ideas!

I know that 2013 has great things in store for me and you.  May you work toward what you want a little more each day in this New Year — toward happiness, love, laughter, and fun.  Here’s to more!

What were your favorite gifts?

I’m still obsessing over all the fantastic gifts I received for Christmas and so thankful for all the thoughtful, generous, wonderful people in my life. I’ll surely be thinking of them when I wear and use my gifts throughout the year.

What’s the best gift you received (or gave) this year and why do you love it so much?

Missed Connections

Mumbles has a funny friend named Matt (technically Mumbles found him first but what’s yours is mine, right?) who came to visit one day and we somehow got onto a story or subject that led Matt to introduce us to the glorious awkwardness that is the Missed Connections section of Craigslist.  Have you been there before?!  Brace yourself if you haven’t.  There’s lots of good, free content to keep you entertained for hours (hours!), and while there’s definitely a creepy factor of 14 on a 1-to-10 scale, sometimes you come across one that’s actually a little adorable, and other times you learn things like you shouldn’t ever make eye contact with anyone at the gym. Ever.  Also, sometimes it’s like a game and folks will say something like “…if that was you, send me an email and I’ll know it’s you if you can tell me what color my hat was” and I think desperately that if I ever got really bored and nothing seemed funny, I could probably answer a bunch of these with guesses.

While we’re at it, let’s not forget that the stories of inopportune moments is a great subject for movies (see: Serendipity and the so-bad-it’s-good On The Line featuring former N*Sync’ers Lance Bass and Joey Fatone, and smokin’ hot lady Emmanuelle Chriqui).

Missed Connections: Love, Lost & Found book with illustrations by Sophie Blackall

So, next time you’re looking to fill a void in your heart, need to appreciate the collective ridiculousness of people that live near you, or you just have some time to kill: crank up “Escape (If You Like Pina Coladas),” grab a cup of coffee and head on over to the Missed Connections section of Craigslist.  Oh, and if you have a friend like Matt who truly appreciates the art of the missed connection, you might want to invest in a few copies of this insanely awesome book.

Do you have any missed connections stories to share?  Leave a comment below!

P.S. Did you know that there’s a Craigslist section of Rants & Raves?? How did I not know about this before?!  And now that I’ve told you about that, I can further confess that there are quite a few folks posting in the Missed Connections section who should be told they’re inappropriately posting a Rant and should therefore redirect their ad to be classified correctly.  I mean, you’re going through all this trouble, right?
